Former presidential media aide, Reno Omokri, has voiced his opinion on Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, suggesting that Obi would have visited the grieving family of the late music sensation, Mohbad, had it been during an election season.
Mohbad tragically passed away last Tuesday following ear infection complications, and his final rites were conducted in Ikorodu, Lagos on Wednesday.
In the wake of the shocking news, the nation’s celebrities, devoted fans, and fellow Nigerians have been offering their condolences and reactions. Joining the conversation, Omokri took to social media, asserting that if this unfortunate incident had occurred before the presidential election, Peter Obi would likely have visited Mohbad’s family and made a public show of support.
In his statement, Omokri emphasized, “Sadly, the truth is that if this were before the election, Peter Obi would have visited Mohbad’s family by now. He would have posted about it. He may even have shed some crocodile tears, and perhaps donated some money. But the election is over. And Mohbad is not from a certain part of Nigeria. He is not a member of the Labour Party or an Obidient. So, there is no need for Peter Obi to even pretend that he cares!”
It’s worth noting that Reno Omokri has been an outspoken critic of Peter Obi on social media platforms. In the run-up to the general election, the Labour Party’s campaign team accused Omokri of exploiting the party’s candidate’s name for personal relevance on his social media channels. The Obi campaign team, known as the Obi-Datti Movement, had previously described Omokri as a frustrated individual.
