PDP Unveils Timetable for By-Elections, Sets Senate Form Price at N3.5m
In anticipation of the upcoming February 3, 2024, by-elections, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced a detailed timetable and activity schedule for candidates vying for Senatorial, House of Representatives, and State Assembly seats. The PDP’s National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature, officially released the timetable on Tuesday.
Commencing on December 28, 2023, and concluding on January 3, 2024, the sale of nomination, expression of interest, and delegates forms will mark the initial phase. Subsequently, primary elections are slated to take place on January 9, 2024.
For prospective candidates, the PDP has set the pricing for Expression of Interest and Nomination forms at N3.5 million, N2.5 million, and N600,000 for Senate, House of Representatives, and House of Assembly positions, respectively.
In an effort to promote inclusivity, the party has specified that female aspirants and individuals with disabilities are only required to pay for nomination forms. Furthermore, aspirants under the age of 40 are eligible for a 50% discount on nomination forms when purchasing Expression of Interest forms.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has already designated February 3, 2024, for the by-elections, stemming from resignations or unfortunate demises of members in both National and State Houses of Assembly. These vacancies span across two Senatorial Districts, four Federal Constituencies, and three State Constituencies, encompassing nine States of the Federation.
