“PDP Now Subject of Public Ridicule” — Ex-Senator Resigns from party, Joins ADC

Former senator representing Kogi West, Tunde Ogbeha, has announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing the once-dominant political group as a party in disarray and public ridicule. In a letter addressed to the chairman of PDP Ward A in Lokoja Local Government Area, Ogbeha said his decision to quit the party was due to its loss of direction and persistent internal crises.

“I write to formally inform you of my decision to resign my membership of the party with immediate effect,” Ogbeha stated, lamenting that the PDP has become a shadow of its former self.

The 80-year-old retired brigadier general emphasized his longstanding commitment to the PDP, noting that he remained loyal even after the party’s defeat in the 2015 general election, when many others chose to walk away. “Over the years, I have remained firm and deeply committed to the ideals of the PDP. Even when nearly all stakeholders departed the party following our loss in the 2015 presidential election, I pledged to remain the last man standing,” he wrote.

Ogbeha said he made significant contributions toward rebuilding and repositioning the PDP to national relevance, efforts he believes helped restore public confidence in the party. However, he expressed disappointment with the current state of affairs, citing internal divisions, unresolved leadership issues, and a loss of credibility.

“Recent events marked by deepening divisions, persistent leadership crisis, and irreconcilable differences have reduced the party to a shadow of its former self, subjecting it to public ridicule,” he said.

Following consultations with family, friends, and political associates, Ogbeha announced he is joining the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which he described as part of a broader move to “rescue our nation and preserve our hard-earned democracy.”

Ogbeha served in the Nigerian Senate from 1999 to 2007 and held governorship roles during military rule as the administrator of Akwa Ibom and the old Bendel State under General Ibrahim Babangida’s regime.
