PDP Governors Endorse Udeh-Okoye as National Secretary, Call for NEC Postponement, Economic Policy Review
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum has declared support for the Court of Appeal ruling that affirmed Hon. S.K.E Udeh-Okoye as the party’s National Secretary. The governors urged the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) to implement the court’s decision without delay.
The Forum, which met in Asaba, Delta State, on Friday for its first monthly meeting of 2025, also called for the postponement of the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, originally scheduled for February, to March 13.
Expressing concern over the economic hardship in the country, the PDP governors urged the federal government, led by President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), to revisit its macroeconomic policies. They warned that the current policies were inflicting severe suffering on Nigerians and must be reconsidered to alleviate the hardship.
In a communique issued after the meeting, the governors emphasized the need for urgent economic reforms, stating that no meaningful development could take place at the state level unless federal economic policies were adjusted. The statement was delivered by the Forum’s Chairman and Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed.
The meeting was attended by several PDP governors, including Siminalayi Fubara (Rivers), Peter Mbah (Enugu), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom), Douye Diri (Bayelsa), Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), Ademola Adeleke (Osun), Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), Agbu Kefas (Taraba), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), and Oyo State Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal.
The governors also addressed security concerns, noting the resurgence of non-state actors and calling for an enhanced security framework to tackle threats across the country. They commended the Armed Forces and security agencies for their continued efforts in combating insecurity and urged further measures to ensure lasting peace.
The Forum reassured Nigerians that the PDP remains committed to returning to power and restoring stability, economic growth, and security. They urged citizens not to lose hope, promising a return to the “glorious days” before 2015, when the cost of living was manageable, security was stronger, and national unity was more robust.
The governors also praised their colleagues for implementing policies that alleviated economic difficulties and fostered long-term development. Special recognition was given to Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his achievements in infrastructure, environmental protection, empowerment programs, and security improvements.
