PDP Crisis: Federal High Court Sets Date for Judgments Against Secondus, Others

The Federal High Court in Abuja has scheduled July 15 as the date for delivering judgments in three separate suits against the former Chairman of the party, Uche Secondus, and two other prominent figures.

The suits, which were filed by three PDP members from Rivers State, sought to restrain Secondus, Celestine Omehia (sacked Governor of Rivers), and Austin Opara (former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives) from participating in the party’s executive meetings.

Titus Jones initiated the suit against Secondus and seven others, marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/440/2024. Precious Wobisike filed the second suit against Omehia and five others, marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/436/2024, while Chisa Amadi filed the third suit against Opara and seven others, marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/438/2024.

Earlier in April, Justice Ekwo issued ex-parte orders, temporarily preventing the three PDP leaders from attending any National Executive Committee (NEC) or Board of Trustees (BoT) meetings pending the resolution of the substantive suits.

Despite attempts by Secondus, Omehia, and Opara to challenge these interim orders by seeking a stay of execution, their applications were dismissed by Justice Ekwo. The judge emphasized that the correct legal recourse for them was to apply to vary or discharge the orders, rather than seeking a stay.

Justice Ekwo, after hearing arguments from both sides, fixed July 15 for the delivery of the judgment.
