PDP Caucus Endorses Governor’s Possible Defection to APC
The Osun State caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared its unwavering support for Governor Ademola Adeleke, stating it will stand by him regardless of his political decisions, amid growing rumours of a potential defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speculation has been mounting over Governor Adeleke’s political future ahead of the state’s governorship election scheduled for August 8, 2026. His recent meeting with President Bola Tinubu in Lagos and his absence from the PDP South-West caucus meeting held in Ibadan on Friday have further fuelled the rumours.
In a statement issued Saturday by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the PDP caucus affirmed its loyalty during a meeting held Thursday at the Government House in Osogbo. According to Rasheed, the caucus passed a vote of confidence in Governor Adeleke and urged him to continue his consultations with political stakeholders at both state and national levels.
The caucus also commended the governor’s leadership style and his performance in office, expressing satisfaction with his governance so far. Rasheed noted that a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting reflected the group’s unanimous decision to follow the governor wherever he goes.
The meeting was attended by members of the National and State Assemblies, state executive council members, PDP party executives, the Special Advisers’ Forum, the Elders Caucus, and leaders of the Osun chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON).
