PDP BoT Raises Concern Over Continued Stay in Office of Damagum and Anyanwu: Uncertainty Looms at NEC Meeting

At the ongoing NEC meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) has raised concerns about the continued stay in office of the acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, and National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu.

Damagum, who previously served as the PDP National Deputy Chairman (North), assumed the role of acting National Chairman following the suspension of the former National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, by the court in March of the previous year. Meanwhile, Anyanwu, who was selected as the PDP candidate for the Imo State 2023 governorship election, has been grappling with the Southeast zone’s nomination for his replacement.

The matter has stirred controversy within the party, with many members questioning the prolonged tenure of Damagum and the unresolved issue surrounding the National Secretary’s position. The lack of clarity has led to internal strife, hindering the party’s efforts to pursue its objectives effectively.

During the meeting, Adolphus Wabara, the Chairman of the PDP BoT, emphasized the urgency of resolving these issues transparently and in the best interests of the party and its members. He highlighted the importance of adhering to the party’s constitution and urged for swift action to reposition the party as it approaches the expiration of ward and LGA executive structures across several states.

In response, the acting National Chairman, Damagum, assured that consultations are underway to address the challenges facing the party. He expressed optimism about the party’s prospects in the upcoming elections in Edo and Ondo states, affirming the party’s commitment to emerging victorious through collective efforts.
