Osun Youths Take to the Streets, Protesting Economic Hardship and Insecurity

A wave of discontent swept through Osun State today as a group of impassioned youths marched through the streets of Osogbo, the state capital, protesting against the prevailing economic hardship and insecurity in Nigeria.

Brandishing placards adorned with messages of frustration, the protesters voiced their concerns and called for improved living standards for all Nigerians. The rally, led by Comrade Waheed Lawal, saw participants marching through key areas such as Freedom Park, Orisunmibare, Ola-Iya, Alekunwodo, and Oke-Fia in a demonstration of unity against the perceived anti-people policies of the current government.

To maintain order, armed policemen were deployed to oversee the peaceful protest and prevent any potential violence or disruption by unruly elements. Comrade Lawal expressed disappointment in the government’s policies, stating, “They promised us ‘Renewed Hope,’ but what they are giving us now is renewed hardship. We reject this in our lives and in our economy because Nigerians deserve the best.”

The leader emphasized the need for a peaceful atmosphere, highlighting the rising insecurity in the country that has left citizens uneasy about travel. He vowed to continue mobilizing the people if the government fails to address their concerns, declaring, “Enough is enough.”

This demonstration in Osun State echoes similar protests in Minna, Niger State, and Kano, all reflecting the growing dissatisfaction with economic challenges across the nation. In Minna, women and youths blocked major roads, seeking assistance to cope with rising living costs.

The government is under increasing pressure to respond to these concerns, with ongoing discussions involving key officials such as the ministers of finance, information, budget and national planning, agriculture, and the national security advisor. Information Minister Mohammed Idris assured reporters that a solution is imminent, stating, “By the time these meetings are concluded, we’ll be able to issue a definite statement on what the position of the government is in this regard.”
