Tragedy Hits Kogi State Polytechnic as Generator Fumes Claim Lives of Two Students; One Hospitalized

In a devastating incident at Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, two students lost their lives due to inhaling toxic fumes emitted by a power generator strategically positioned near the window of their residence. The victims, identified as Bilikisu Tijjani Eleojo, 20, and Ibrahim Haliru, 26, tragically succumbed to the fumes while asleep, discovered lifeless by neighbors in the early hours of Thursday.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Ovye Aya, confirmed the incident to Channels Television on Thursday. Additionally, one student, Mercy Ojochegbe, managed to survive the ordeal and is currently receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital.

This unfortunate event highlights the dangers posed by improper generator placement and emphasizes the need for increased awareness regarding safe practices when using such power sources. The generating set, positioned perilously close to the victims’ window, proved fatal as the unsuspecting students slept through the night, unaware of the looming tragedy.
