NAFDAC Penalizes Abuja Pizza Outlets for Using Expired Ingredients
The FCT Directorate of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has taken decisive action against two pizza outlets in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for utilizing expired dough blend seasoning.
The revelation was made by Ozigis Abdulsalam, the director of the FCT NAFDAC branch, in a statement released on Friday. Abdulsalam disclosed that the regulatory body, acting on intelligence information, conducted inspections of pizza outlets and uncovered the use of expired dough blend seasoning in two establishments.
Furthermore, NAFDAC officials noted that the implicated outlets went beyond using expired seasoning; they also utilized deep ham slices in the preparation of their pizzas. Abdulsalam emphasized that such practices not only violate best standards but also pose serious risks to food safety, potentially leading to public health issues.
As a consequence of these findings, NAFDAC seized the compromised ingredients and imposed penalties on the erring company. Abdulsalam indicated that the penalized company is now required to submit an undertaking pledging not to engage in such negligent practices in the future.
This enforcement action underscores NAFDAC’s commitment to ensuring the highest standards in food safety and upholding public health in the FCT. Consumers are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious or unhygienic practices observed in food establishments.
