Osun Police Arrest Doctor for Alleged Rape of Job Seeker
The Osun State Police Command has apprehended Dr. Olayode Akangbe Shakiru, a medical practitioner, on allegations of assault and rape. The arrest followed a complaint by the family of an 18-year-old girl.
According to Yemisi Opalola, the Police Public Relations Officer, Dr. Shakiru was detained on Thursday by officers from the Oke-Baale Police Division in Osogbo. The arrest occurred as Dr. Shakiru was returning to Osogbo from Ipetumodu along the Ile-Ife road.
Opalola confirmed that Dr. Shakiru has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
The incident reportedly began when Dr. Shakiru offered the teenage victim a ride while she was walking in Osogbo. He collected her phone number, promising to help her find employment to support her education. The rape allegedly took place at Dr. Shakiru’s residence in the Ilesa Garage area of Osogbo, where the victim had gone to complete job-related paperwork.
The victim recounted her experience, stating she had traveled from Osunjela to Osogbo in search of employment and met Dr. Shakiru, who offered assistance. After the assault, she confided in her older sister, who subsequently reported the incident to the Oke-Baale Police Station.
A WhatsApp message from Dr. Shakiru to the victim, promising employment, has been seized as evidence.
The victim’s elder brother noted difficulties locating Dr. Shakiru’s residence when police conducted a search. The family did visit Atoke Hospital in Igbona Area, where Dr. Shakiru is listed as a part-time doctor, according to hospital staff.
