Osun PDP Endorses Tinubu for 2027, Urges Adeleke to Remain in Party
The Osun State caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term in 2027, while simultaneously urging Governor Ademola Adeleke to remain within the PDP fold.
The endorsement followed a closed-door meeting held on Monday at the government house in Osogbo. In a communiqué issued after the session, the caucus reaffirmed its support for Adeleke to pursue a second term as governor in 2026 and emphasized the continued popularity of both the governor and the PDP across the state.
The statement indicated that the dual endorsement of Tinubu and Adeleke came after extensive consultations with traditional rulers, civil servants, retirees, religious figures, market associations, party members, and residents. Despite persistent rumours of Adeleke planning to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), the PDP leaders clarified that the idea did not originate from the governor and lacked support among most APC members.
The communiqué noted that some APC leaders have displayed open hostility toward Adeleke, with personal attacks surfacing on social media and national platforms. While many PDP members expressed dissatisfaction with the notion of Adeleke’s defection, they pledged to follow him out of loyalty if he ever chose to switch parties. However, the caucus strongly urged him to remain within the PDP and continue implementing his administration’s Five Point Agenda.
The resolutions were signed by Adeleke and prominent party leaders including former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi, Senators Lere Oyewumi and Bamidele Salam, and other key figures such as Moruf Adebayo, Lukman Mudashiru, Soji Adetunji, Lanre Oladeebo, Clement Akanni, Adewale Egbedun, and Sunday Bisi. The list also included Oluwole Alabi, Lasun Yusuf, Tajudeen Oladipo, Muyiwa Oladimeji, Fatai Akinbade, Kazeem Akinleye, Sarafadeen Awotunde, Teslim Igbalaye, Ibukun Fadipe, Bunmi Jenyo, Ganiyu Olaoluwa, Muniru Raji, Niyi Owolade, Bola Ajao, Olawale Rasheed, and Wale Oladipo.
Party structures across the state have been instructed to publicize the caucus decisions as part of a wider effort to maintain unity and political clarity within the Osun PDP ahead of the next electoral cycle.
