Ondo Deputy Governor, Ajayi Set to Move Again As ZLP Clears Him to Contest Guber Poll On Its Platform
The Deputy Governor of Ondo state, Agboola Ajayi, is set to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), for the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), the platform he plans to contest the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state.
Ajayi, who left the All Progressives Congress (APC), weeks ago following a disagreement with Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, lost the PDP gubernatorial ticket to Mr. Eyitayo Jegede. He has been meeting with leaders of the ZLP in the state, especially former Governor Olusegun Mimiko, a national leader of the party, to explore the possibility of contesting the election on the party’s platform.
The Deputy Governor had applied to the National Executive Council of the ZLP for clearance to contest the election on their platform. The Ondo state Chairman of the Party, Joseph Akinlaja, confirmed that Ajayi has been cleared to contest and now the party’s gubernatorial candidate for the election.
Barring any last-minute change of plans, Ajayi will formally join the party on Tuesday.
