Ondo Assembly Urges Chief Judge to Establish Panel as Deputy Governor Ignores Impeachment Notice

The Ondo State House of Assembly has taken a significant step in the ongoing impeachment proceedings against Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa. Allegations of gross misconduct have been raised against him, and the Assembly asserts that he has ignored the impeachment notice served to him.

Speaker Olamide Oladiji, in a press statement, emphasized that the notice served on Deputy Governor Aiyedatiwa was delivered to his Chief Protocol Officer in adherence to Section 188 of the Nigerian Constitution, which outlines the necessary procedures for such matters.

Despite the Assembly’s efforts to deliver the notice directly to the deputy governor, he remained unavailable for service. As a result, the Assembly pursued legal measures and sought a court order for substituted service.

“On the 25th of September, a substituted service of the notice of allegations was made to the deputy governor, duly signed by more than one-third of the Honourable Members of the House as required by the Constitution in Section 188 Sub-section 2,” Speaker Oladiji stated.

According to the Constitution, the Assembly must allow seven days for Deputy Governor Aiyedatiwa to respond, a period that has now lapsed without a response.

In light of these developments, the Ondo State House of Assembly has directed the Chief Judge of the State to establish a panel to investigate the allegations of gross misconduct against Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa. The proceedings continue to draw attention, and the state eagerly awaits the outcome of this investigation.
