Ondo APC Primary: Clashes Force Voters to Flee Voting Center
Violence erupted at Ward 1, Stella Maris College, Okitipupa, during the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election on Saturday, as supporters of rival aspirants clashed fiercely.
The aspirants are vying for the party’s candidacy in the upcoming November 16 Ondo State Governorship election.
Early morning voters, who had gathered in large numbers to participate in the election process, were forced to flee as chaos engulfed the voting center.
According to reports from the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the violence erupted before the accreditation and election processes could commence. Witnesses described how one of the agents of an aspirant allegedly seized validation and accreditation papers before fleeing the scene, triggering the violent confrontation.
An eyewitness, who spoke anonymously to NAN, recounted the incident:
“One of the agents came here, snatched the validation and accreditation papers and fled the venue in his car. They chased him, but could not catch him. This caused the violence.”
Despite the presence of security agents at the ward, they were unable to contain the situation, leading to a mass dispersal of voters and onlookers.
