Obidients Endorse PDP’s Ighodalo for Edo Governorship Election, Pledge 100,000 Votes
The Obidients support group, which backed Peter Obi of the Labour Party in the 2023 Presidential race, has thrown its weight behind Asue Ighodalo, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The group has promised to deliver 100,000 votes for Ighodalo, citing his preparedness and suitability for the role.
At a press conference in Benin City, Augustine Odia Isikhuemen, co-convener of the Obidients group, praised Ighodalo for his track record and commitment to development. He stated that the group’s endorsement was based on Ighodalo’s alignment with their core values of accountability, integrity, and effective governance.
Isikhuemen emphasized, “The Obidients remain steadfast in our principles, which guided our support for Peter Obi. These values—capacity, competence, compassion, and economic expertise—are embodied by Asue Ighodalo.”
He added that the group’s endorsement is not influenced by Ighodalo’s regional affiliation but rather by his comprehensive manifesto and his proven ability to drive development across Edo State. “Ighodalo’s background as a seasoned lawyer and investment banker, combined with his experience managing a large manufacturing company and a bank, positions him uniquely to attract investment and manage state finances effectively,” Isikhuemen said.
Echoing these sentiments, Blessing Agho and Jegede Idemudia, state coordinators for the Obidients, expressed confidence in Ighodalo’s capability to lead Edo State. They highlighted that a significant portion of the Obidients, including candidates from the 2023 election, are united in their support for Ighodalo.
