Oba Tragedy: Tipper Drivers Contributed Money to Bribe Journalists – SASA Spokesperson

The Special Anti-Touting Squad Agency (SASA) has alleged that tipper drivers in Anambra State have been raising funds to bribe journalists in a bid to influence media coverage in their favor. The claim was made by SASA spokesperson Karen James, who presented what she described as evidence of financial contributions purportedly collected for this purpose.

According to James, a list of contributors shows various individuals donating sums ranging from ₦2,000 to ₦20,000. The funds were allegedly intended for a journalist identified as Raymond Ozoji, with the aim of shaping public narratives regarding SASA’s enforcement activities in the state.

SASA has challenged the tipper drivers to deny the allegations and has called on law enforcement agencies to investigate the matter thoroughly. “We stand for transparency and due process. Anyone attempting to undermine our mission through bribery or misinformation should be held accountable,” James stated.

The allegation comes amid heightened tensions following the reported killing of a SASA officer during an enforcement operation in Oba, Anambra State. The agency reiterated its commitment to combating touting and maintaining order despite violent resistance.

Meanwhile, the Anambra State Police Command is expected to look into both the alleged media bribery and the tragic death of the SASA officer. The agency has urged the public to remain vigilant and report any actions that could hinder its operations.
