NWA MISS 2027: Ohaegbu Declares for House of Representatives Seat on ADC Platform

Prominent community leader and former Federal Commissioner of the Public Complaints Commission (PCC), Sir Obunike Callistus Ohaegbu, popularly known as “Nwa Miss,” has declared his intention to contest the House of Representatives seat for Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Ohaegbu made the declaration on Friday, April 25, 2026, at his country home in Ebe, Ukpor, Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State, before political stakeholders, traditional rulers, supporters and other guests.

Addressing the gathering, Ohaegbu said his decision followed consultations with his family and associates and was driven by a commitment to offer effective representation to the constituency.

“This decision did not come easy. It comes with sacrifices; personal and family, but I am convinced, to the glory of God, that if given the opportunity, I will provide a voice and representation you will be proud of,” he said.

Reflecting on his background, Ohaegbu recounted growing up without privilege after losing his father in infancy and being raised by his mother, an experience he said shaped his values and commitment to service.

“I was not born ‘Nwa Miss,’” he said, while tracing the personal struggles that informed what he described as a lifelong dedication to helping others.

He pointed to his record as Federal Commissioner of the PCC, saying several indigenes of the constituency secured employment and other opportunities through his interventions while in office.

Beyond public service, he highlighted his involvement in grassroots development through the Odi Mma Ukpor initiative, including sponsoring a development master plan to tackle erosion challenges in Ukpor and improve connectivity across communities in the constituency.

Outlining his legislative priorities, Ohaegbu said his ambition was focused on large-scale economic and infrastructure development rather than what he described as token constituency projects.

“These are the real issues that will create jobs, empower our people, and reposition our region economically,” he said, listing gas infrastructure, Eastern ports, River Niger dredging and the Port Harcourt–Aba–Enugu–Maiduguri rail corridor among his priorities.

He also drew attention to the Federal Government Industrial Park project in the Akwaehedi/Unubi axis of Nnewi South, arguing that stronger political support could transform it into a major manufacturing and employment hub.

Speaking on the challenges facing traders and manufacturers, particularly in Nnewi, Ohaegbu pledged stronger advocacy in Abuja.

“If you have suffered loss, frustration, or injustice; be assured: my election will give you more than a voice. I understand your struggles. I am part of you,” he said.

Without directly naming his opponents, he suggested the constituency needed representation anchored on preparation, exposure and proven capacity.

“Leadership should be earned,” he said, arguing that public office should not be treated as political entitlement.

On zoning and political cooperation, Ohaegbu appealed for support across the three local government areas in the constituency and called for unity behind his aspiration.

“Nnewi South, this is our moment. Let us put forward our very best. Unity is not optional; it is essential,” he said.

He noted that Nnewi North had held the seat for 12 consecutive years and appealed for what he described as brotherly support, while also acknowledging Ekwusigo’s role in the ADC structure in the state.

Ohaegbu urged supporters to register with the ADC ahead of the 2027 elections, saying the party’s strength would depend on organisation and numbers.

He also expressed confidence in the national leadership of the ADC under David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola, while reaffirming support for Peter Obi as the preferred presidential candidate of the South East bloc of the party.

He described Obi as “Okwute Ndi Igbo,” saying the region remained united in its support.

The declaration ended with the unveiling of his campaign identity, “NWA MISS 2027,” alongside the slogan, “The Difference Starts With You.”
