Nursing Student Arrested After Federal Polytechnic Bida Lecturer Dies in Minna
Stella Joseph, a nursing student, has been arrested by the Niger State Police Command in connection with the sudden death of Otori Abdulfatai Aiyede, a lecturer at the Federal Polytechnic, Bida.
According to police, the lecturer traveled from Bida to Minna on January 27, 2026, and visited Stella Joseph at her residence on Niteco Road, Tunga. During the visit, he was reportedly served a plate of spaghetti and egg. Shortly after eating, he allegedly convulsed, collapsed, and was rushed to General Hospital, Minna, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Initial reports mistakenly identified the lecturer as affiliated with Newgate University, Minna. The institution has since denied this claim, and authorities have confirmed that Aiyede lectured at the Federal Polytechnic, Bida.
Police Public Relations Officer SP Wasiu Abiodun confirmed the arrest of Stella Joseph and said the deceased’s body has been sent for medical examination to determine the cause of death. Families have been informed, and the investigation is ongoing.
Further updates will be provided as the case develops.
