Notorious Bandit Leaders Surrender to Nigerian Army, Release Hostages in Katsina

Several notorious bandit leaders operating in Katsina State have reportedly surrendered to the Nigerian Army and released hostages.

The individuals, identified as Abu Radda, Umar Black, Abdullahi Lankai, Jijjige, and Dabar Musa Dan Gandu, had been active in the Jibia axis, terrorizing Batsari, Safana, and Jibia local government areas. According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication, the bandits surrendered following sustained military operations in the region.

Security sources quoted by the publication stated that the former bandits handed over their weapons and opted for a peace deal. In addition to their surrender, they appealed to the government for alternative livelihoods, requesting opportunities in market and hospital construction projects. They pledged to renounce criminal activities and embrace peace.

The surrender was reportedly facilitated by the National Community for Security and Societal Advancement in Katsina (NCSOSACK), led by Hamisa Batsari.

Meanwhile, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has confirmed that 800 former Boko Haram fighters who surrendered are currently undergoing deradicalization for reintegration into society.
