“No Supreme Court Judgment Against Gov. Fubara, Oko Jumbo Still Speaker” – Ikenga Ugochinyere
The Opposition Coalition has dismissed claims of a Supreme Court judgment against Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, calling it misinformation spread by political adversaries. According to the coalition’s spokesperson, Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere, the court ruling was actually in favor of Fubara’s camp, as it was based on the governor’s voluntary withdrawal of an appeal related to the 2024 budget, which has already been fully executed.
Ugochinyere clarified that Fubara did not lose any case at the Supreme Court but simply withdrew his appeal because the 2024 budget cycle had ended, making the issue irrelevant. He stressed that no court has ruled in favor of the pro-Wike lawmakers who were sacked. The Supreme Court merely struck out the case after the governor informed the justices that events had overtaken the suit.
He also reaffirmed that Hon. Victor Oko Jumbo remains the legitimate Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly and dismissed reports suggesting otherwise as baseless propaganda. He urged the public to disregard political misinformation and called on the media to ensure accurate and responsible reporting, particularly on legal matters.
Ugochinyere encouraged Governor Fubara to remain focused on governance and ignore political distractions. He criticized pro-Wike lawmakers, led by Martin Amaewhule, for celebrating the court ruling without understanding its implications. He emphasized that Fubara’s withdrawal was a procedural move since the 2024 budget had already been implemented and the 2025 budget was now in effect.
He reiterated that the Supreme Court’s decision did not alter the political structure of the Rivers State legislature, affirming that Oko Jumbo remains in control while the sacked lawmakers remain out of office.
