In a resounding victory against terrorism, the Nigerian military has reported the successful elimination of 151 terrorists and the capture of 456 others during a series of operations conducted across the country.
Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations at the Defence Headquarters, shared these remarkable developments during a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday.
The majority of these achievements were attributed to the troops of Operation Hadin Kai, who managed to neutralize 44 terrorists, apprehend 21 suspects, and rescue four hostages. During these operations, the military recovered a substantial cache of weaponry, including 17 AK47 rifles, three locally manufactured rifles, three homemade guns, one Beretta pistol, three Dane guns, and 116 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
Further discoveries included five rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, 13 rounds of 9mm ammo, 20 rounds of 7.62 mm x 54 ammo, 42 empty cases of 7.62 mm x 54 ammo, 12 magazines, 50 jerry cans of petroleum motor spirit (PMS), three vehicles, five mobile phones, six motorcycles, three machetes, and a sum of N3.18 million in cash.
Notably, the Nigerian military also apprehended individuals suspected of collaborating with terrorists in the regions of Jere and Biu in Borno, as well as Gujba Local Government Area in Yobe. Additionally, troops successfully ambushed and raided suspected terrorist hideouts in Konduga and Gwoza Local Government Areas of Borno, resulting in the elimination of several terrorists and the recovery of additional arms and ammunition.
In the North Central region, the troops of Operation Safe Haven achieved significant success by neutralizing 16 terrorists, arresting 16 individuals, and rescuing one kidnapped hostage. This operation also yielded the recovery of 12 AK47 rifles, two pistols, five locally fabricated rifles, six Dane guns, 32 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 15 magazines, and three motorcycles.
Operation Whirl Stroke contributed to the efforts as well, with 15 terrorists neutralized, six arrested, and one kidnapped hostage rescued, in addition to the recovery of more arms and ammunition.
Moving to the North West, the joint efforts of Operations Hadarin Daji and Whirl Punch proved highly effective, resulting in the neutralization of 35 terrorists, the arrest of eight suspects, and the rescue of 17 kidnapped hostages during the specified period.
The Nigerian military’s air components continued their relentless pursuit of terrorists, conducting a series of airstrikes to eliminate threats from various hideouts.
These achievements underscore the unwavering commitment of the Nigerian military in their fight against terrorism, as they work tirelessly to secure the nation and protect its citizens.
