Armed gunmen have struck in the Maigemu District of Jos East Local Government Area in Plateau State, kidnapping a clergyman and three other individuals. The incident unfolded at the break of dawn, approximately at 5:40 a.m. on a Wednesday morning, within the premises of ECWA Church Nuku.
Reports indicate that the gunmen brazenly seized the clergyman in front of his own family, instilling fear and dread in the hearts of the community. The audacious assailants operated without restraint for nearly 40 minutes, during which they also abducted three additional victims: Agwom Dauda, Usman Umaru, and a woman known only as Sarah.
Eyewitnesses from the area recounted the terrifying scene as the gunmen fired multiple gunshots into the air, creating an atmosphere of terror that deterred both vigilantes and local hunters from intervening and attempting a rescue. After their sinister mission, the assailants fled the scene in a vehicle, while others trailed behind on motorcycles.
Concerns have mounted as the kidnappers have not yet made contact with the families of the victims, leaving their fate uncertain. A relative of the kidnapped clergyman, who chose to remain anonymous, revealed that no ransom demands had been received as of now.
In response to the distressing situation, the Plateau State Police Spokesman, DSP Alfred Alabo, confirmed the incident and assured the public that law enforcement is actively engaged in efforts to track down and apprehend the culprits responsible for this heinous act. The community remains on edge as they await developments in this unfolding crisis.
