Nigerian Correctional Service to House Bobrisky in Male Cell, Assures Protection Against Predators

In response to the sentencing of celebrity transgender personality Idris Okuneye, known as Bobrisky, to six months in prison for Naira mutilation, the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has announced plans to incarcerate him in the male section of its custodial facility.

Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Lagos Division of the Federal High Court delivered the verdict, finding Bobrisky guilty of Naira abuse.

Despite Bobrisky’s gender identity, which he openly discussed on social media, identifying himself as male in court influenced the decision to place him in the male-designated facility.

A spokesperson for the correctional service in Lagos explained, “Since he admitted to being a male in court, then we have to abide by what was submitted in court.”

Addressing concerns about Bobrisky’s safety, particularly regarding potential harm due to his gender preference, correctional officers have assured that he will receive adequate protection.

The spokesperson emphasized, “He shouldn’t be afraid of sexual assault from other male inmates because our men can give him protection.”

Bobrisky’s social media presence remains active, with recent posts attracting attention, including a suggestive video on Instagram where he discussed his gender transition journey with his five million followers, stating, “My journey transitioning into a woman has been going smooth, no health issues, everything is going smooth for me.”

As Bobrisky begins his custodial sentence, the NCoS pledges to ensure his safety while maintaining the integrity of its correctional system.
