“Nigerian Army Has Successfully Responded to All Security Threats” – Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, announced on Thursday, September 26, that the Nigerian Army has effectively tackled security threats across all regions of the country, thereby safeguarding national security.
This declaration was made during the Nigerian Army’s civil-military cooperation media chat for the third quarter of 2024, themed “The Media and the Military: Allies in Pursuit of National Security.” Lt. Gen. Lagbaja was represented at the event by Major Gen. Hilary Nzan, Commander of the 4 Special Forces Command based in Doma.
Lt. Gen. Lagbaja highlighted the intensified military operations tailored to address the unique security challenges in various regions. “I’m pleased to report significant successes in these efforts across multiple theatres,” he stated. Key achievements include the neutralization of numerous terrorists and their leaders, the rescue of abducted individuals, and the facilitation of the return of internally displaced persons to their homes. Additionally, these operations have positively impacted crude oil production and food security through dedicated patrols and escort duties for farmers.
In light of recent human-made and natural disasters affecting different parts of the country, the Army has activated its emergency response capabilities. Lt. Gen. Lagbaja cited the Army’s prompt action during the recent flooding in Maiduguri as an example of its readiness to respond to crises.
He called on Nigerians to support the Nigerian Army and urged the media to maintain responsible and balanced reporting. “The Nigerian Army reaffirms its commitment to a strong, mutually beneficial relationship with the media, which is essential for securing our nation’s territorial integrity and advancing socio-economic development,” he said.
Earlier in the event, Major Gen. Nosakhare Ugbo, Chief of Civil-Military Affairs, emphasized the importance of public support for the Army’s operations. He noted that the Nigerian Army’s non-kinetic operations are aimed at fostering cooperation with the civil populace, which is vital for operational success.
