“Nigeria Has Become a Crime Scene, Government Full of Yahoo Boys” – Peter Obi
Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, has described Nigeria as a crime scene, alleging that the government is dominated by fraudsters.
Speaking at the 4th graduation ceremony of Nexford University on Saturday, Obi claimed that there are more “Yahoo boys” within the government than on the streets. He accused public officials of looting the nation’s resources while ordinary citizens also resort to fraudulent activities.
“For governance, don’t think when we talk about vices, it is only Yahoo boys,” Obi said. “There are actually more Yahoo people in government than there are outside because we have turned the entire country into a crime scene where people inside are stealing and people outside are stealing.”
Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, urged the graduating students to use their education to drive positive change in society. He emphasized the importance of leadership, integrity, and the courage to do the right thing, calling on young people to take responsibility for shaping a better future.
“It is about leadership and igniting the future. It is not rocket science, but it is difficult. It is being able to have a strong character and the ability not to do the wrong thing,” he said.
Obi also acknowledged the struggles young Nigerians face, blaming previous generations for failing to build a system that benefits the youth. He challenged the graduates to use their knowledge to transform society and create the Nigeria they wish to live in.
