Niger State Governor Umar Bago Approves N80,000 Minimum Wage for Civil Servants

Governor Umar Bago has officially approved an increased minimum wage of N80,000 for civil servants in Niger State, marking a significant step toward supporting the welfare of government employees.

The announcement was made on Friday during a meeting between the governor and representatives of organized labor in Minna, the state’s capital. During the discussion, Governor Bago emphasized the state’s commitment to improving worker welfare, highlighting the government’s decision to adopt the N80,000 minimum wage as a positive shift for civil servants in Niger.

Governor Bago shared his announcement on his social media platform, stating, “In our own magnanimity as a state government, we have decided to adopt the minimum wage of N80,000 (Eighty Thousand Naira).”

This decision comes shortly after similar wage adjustments in other states, with Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State recently declaring an N80,000 minimum wage for civil servants. Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has also announced a new minimum wage of N75,000 for government workers in his region.

Governor Bago has expressed optimism about the impact of this wage increase and will soon establish an implementation committee to ensure a smooth and equitable rollout across all levels of the state’s civil service.

This wage adjustment aligns with a growing movement across Nigeria’s states to improve the financial standing of government employees, responding to both inflationary pressures and calls from organized labor for increased support.
