We Have No Plans to Increase Minimum Wage – Anambra State Government
The Anambra State government has clarified that there are no immediate plans to raise the minimum wage for civil servants in the state. Dr. Law Mefor, the Commissioner of Information, stated that Governor Chukwuma Soludo currently has no intention of increasing the N82,000 minimum wage being paid to state workers.
Mefor emphasized that the governor remains committed to the welfare of workers and will not hesitate to implement a wage increase whenever it becomes necessary. The clarification came in response to inquiries about whether Anambra would follow the example of Imo and Ebonyi states, where Governors Hope Uzodinma and Francis Nwifuru recently approved higher minimum wages for civil servants.
Highlighting the state’s earlier efforts to support workers, the commissioner noted that Anambra began paying N82,000 before many other states and added N10,000 to all pensions, a move not matched elsewhere. “Governor Soludo is very workers-friendly,” Mefor said. “Once further increases become necessary, he will not wait for persuasion to grant another raise.”
