APGA Won’t Field Presidential Candidate in 2027, Backs Tinubu — Soludo

Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo, has said the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) will not present a presidential candidate in the 2027 general elections.

The governor made the disclosure on Friday during a media chat in Awka, days after beginning his second term in office. He said the party’s position aligns with its past approach in national elections.

“In 2011, APGA did not field a presidential candidate. The party adopted the sitting president at the time,” Soludo said.

He added that APGA would maintain its cooperative stance with the federal government and continue its working relationship with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Soludo also expressed support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, describing him as a capable leader who has performed well since taking office in 2023.

“At both personal and party levels, I believe he has earned a second term,” the governor said. “This position is also informed by the broader interests of our people and their place in national governance.”

He noted that Tinubu’s chances in the 2027 election remain strong regardless of APGA’s backing.

Beyond national politics, Soludo addressed recent actions taken by his administration against certain native doctors in the state. He clarified that the government is not opposed to traditional religion but is targeting individuals allegedly linked to criminal activity.

According to him, some practitioners have been implicated in aiding kidnappers and armed robbers, including the preparation of charms and involvement in harmful rituals.

He said the government would continue to act against such practices, stressing that they undermine public safety and distort legitimate traditional beliefs.

“Our responsibility is to protect lives and uphold the values of society,” Soludo said, adding that those engaged in criminal acts under any guise would face consequences.
