Niger ADC Chairman Withdraws from Legal Case Backed by Kachikwu Against David Mark-led Coalition
Musa Hassan, chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Niger State, has officially withdrawn from a court case initiated by Mr. Kachikwu challenging the legitimacy of a new opposition coalition led by former Senate President David Mark. Mr. Mark, who recently joined the ADC and was appointed interim national chairman, has been at the center of internal party tensions following the formation of the broad-based coalition.
In a letter addressed to the ADC’s national leadership, Mr. Hassan called for an immediate halt to the legal action and asked the party’s legal representatives to file a motion of discontinuance at the Federal High Court in Abuja. The case is scheduled for hearing on July 23.
“I do not intend to continue the prosecution of the case against my great party, Africa Democratic Congress,” Mr. Hassan wrote, distancing himself from the legal campaign instigated by Mr. Kachikwu.
Mr. Kachikwu, the CEO of Roots TV, has been a vocal critic of the coalition and is suspected by some insiders of acting as a covert agent for President Bola Tinubu. His opposition has included public attacks and alleged disinformation targeting new members of the ADC, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former governors Rauf Aregbesola, Nasir El-Rufai, Peter Obi, and former Attorney General Abubakar Malami.
The coalition, formed to mount a unified opposition against President Tinubu, has drawn significant attention, particularly as the administration faces growing criticism over corruption, abuse of power, and worsening national security. Mr. Kachikwu has continued to condemn the coalition, characterizing it as a gathering of political figures who, in his words, “destroyed” Nigeria.
“People who destroyed our country are here again to deceive the people,” he said during a Sunday appearance on Channels TV. “Nigerians are yearning for fresh ideas and perspectives; these people are inconsistent with the reality of the country. We won’t allow them to ruin the party.”
According to earlier reports, Mr. Kachikwu may be working behind the scenes to sabotage the opposition coalition, drawing comparisons to former Rivers State governor Nyesom Wike’s role in destabilizing the PDP ahead of the 2023 elections.
