Neglected and Abandoned: Ogbaru Rep Slams Soludo’s Handling of Ogwuaniocha Crisis

In a scathing critique, Hon. Afam Victor Ogene, the representative for Ogbaru Federal Constituency, Anambra state, has lashed out at Governor Chukwuma Soludo over the prolonged neglect of the oil-rich Ogwuaniocha community, which has been embroiled in a violent crisis.

Ogene’s call for action comes in the wake of the abduction of the community’s traditional ruler in 2021, a crime that remains unresolved. He has urged the Anambra state government to establish a panel of inquiry to address the conflict and put an end to years of lawlessness and fear in the area.

Highlighting the dire situation, Ogene emphasized the lack of social and economic progress in Ogwuaniocha since the onset of the crisis, attributing it to the government’s indifference. Despite being a significant contributor to the state’s oil revenue, the community has been left to suffer at the hands of criminal gangs.

In a recent video statement, Ogene expressed dismay at the lack of response from Governor Soludo to his earlier plea for intervention. He detailed the rampant displacement of residents and the pervasive criminality that has plagued the community, underscoring the urgent need for government action.

Ogene’s impassioned plea outlined specific measures he believes are necessary to address the crisis, including the establishment of a panel of inquiry, deployment of security forces to restore order, and provision of relief materials to alleviate the suffering of residents.

The representative’s criticism serves as a wake-up call to the state government, urging swift and decisive action to resolve the crisis and restore peace to the beleaguered community. As the standoff continues, the fate of Ogwuaniocha hangs in the balance, awaiting a resolution to end its turmoil.
