Rivers State Governor Fubara Announces Doubling of State’s Monthly IGR from N13bn to N27bn
Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has announced a significant increase in the state’s Internally-Generated Revenue (IGR) from approximately N13bn to N27bn monthly.
Governor Fubara made this revelation during a meeting with the leadership and members of the House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Friday.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Nelson Chukwudi, Fubara attributed the surge in revenue to a transparent accounting system implemented by his administration. He emphasized his commitment to prudent financial management despite facing numerous challenges.
Fubara highlighted the transformational impact of the increased revenue, indicating that it enabled his government to address long-standing issues such as backlog promotions for civil servants. He noted that the wage bill had risen from approximately N5.3bn to about N8bn due to the implementation of promotion arrears.
The governor underscored his administration’s dedication to utilizing the enhanced revenue for developmental projects, with a particular focus on education, healthcare, and agriculture. He emphasized the importance of these sectors in addressing societal issues and ensuring the well-being of citizens.
Fubara also reassured the public of his government’s unwavering commitment to serving the people and maintaining transparency in governance. He stressed the significance of prioritizing the needs of the populace above all else.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts, Bamidele Salam, commended Governor Fubara for his leadership and urged him to sustain efforts towards delivering dividends of democracy to the people of Rivers State.
The committee, consisting of 36 members, their aides, and retreat consultants, chose Rivers State for its inaugural retreat due to its peaceful environment and the exemplary governance demonstrated by Governor Fubara. Salam emphasized the crucial role of peace in fostering meaningful development within the state.
