NBS Report Reveals Kogi, Lagos, Rivers as Nigeria’s Most Expensive States

In a recent update by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), Kogi, Lagos, and Rivers have emerged as the most expensive states in Nigeria. The NBS’s November Consumer Price Index highlighted that these states recorded the highest All-Items Inflation rates on a year-on-year basis.

According to the report, Kogi led with an inflation rate of 33.28%, closely followed by Lagos at 32.30%, and Rivers at 32.25%. Conversely, Borno, Katsina, and Plateau experienced the slowest rise in Headline inflation on a year-on-year basis, with rates of 22.47%, 24.91%, and 25.53%, respectively.

For the month-on-month analysis in November 2023, Kano, Kebbi, and Borno witnessed the highest increases at 3.55%, 3.34%, and 3.24%, while Taraba, Anambra, and Enugu reported the slowest rise in month-on-month inflation.

Delving into food inflation, Kogi topped the list with a 41.29% year-on-year increase, followed by Kwara at 40.72% and Rivers at 40.22%. In contrast, Bauchi, Borno, and Jigawa experienced the slowest rise in food inflation on a year-on-year basis.

On a month-on-month basis for food inflation in November 2023, Cross River, Edo, and Rivers saw the highest increases at 4.37%, 3.95%, and 3.91%, while Anambra, Oyo, and Bauchi reported the slowest rise.
