Native Doctor Injures Himself While Testing ‘Bulletproof’ Charm in Abuja, Hospitalized

A native doctor, Ismail Usman, has sustained serious injuries after testing a self-made ‘bulletproof’ charm in Kuchibiyi, a community in the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory. The incident occurred on Thursday when Usman, attempting to demonstrate the effectiveness of a charm he had created, shot himself in the stomach with a homemade gun.

Samson Ayuba, a local resident, described how the native doctor, who is known for preparing traditional concoctions and herbs, collapsed immediately after firing the shot. Neighbors rushed to his aid and quickly transported him to a hospital for emergency treatment.

The FCT Police confirmed the incident through their spokesperson, SP Adeh Josephine, who revealed that Usman used his locally made gun in the failed test. Police from the Byazhin division responded promptly, finding the victim in critical condition. He was first taken to Kubwa General Hospital and later transferred to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital for further care.

A subsequent search of Usman’s residence led to the recovery of a homemade firearm and several charms. Police investigations are ongoing, and the native doctor is expected to face charges related to unlawful possession of firearms and attempted suicide under Section 231 of the Penal Code.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, condemned the incident, emphasizing the dangers of illegal firearms and reckless behavior. He urged the public to avoid engaging in such hazardous practices.
