Mother, Child Killed by Road Grader in Ondo
A tragic accident has claimed the lives of a mother and her child in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State after a road grader lost control and crushed them on their way to the farm. According to the Ondo State Police Command, the incident occurred on Monday when the heavy machinery, which was being used for a rural road project, suffered a brake failure.
Police spokesperson Olushola Ayanlade confirmed the incident and said an investigation is currently underway to determine the exact cause of the mechanical failure. The grader was reportedly part of an ongoing road rehabilitation effort aimed at improving access within the community.
Reacting to the incident, the chairman of Ose LGA, Clement Ojo, expressed deep sorrow over the loss and assured the public that a separate probe had been launched by the council to examine the technical faults that led to the crash. Ojo emphasized that while the roadwork was intended to enhance daily life for residents, the outcome has instead brought grief and devastation.
“This incident has brought great pain to all of us,” he said. “What was intended as a noble effort to improve access and infrastructure within the community has now become a moment of intense grief. A hard-working mother and her innocent child set out for the farm like any other day, only to have their lives cut short in the most heartbreaking way.”
Ojo offered his condolences to the bereaved family and promised that steps would be taken to ensure such a tragedy never happens again.
