Mob Kills Two Artisans Mistaken for Armed Robbers in Benin City
Tragedy struck in the Amagba community of Benin City, Edo State, when two artisans were killed by a mob after being mistaken for armed robbers. The victims, identified as Osamudiamen Ehigie and Nosa Aghimie, were reportedly welders returning from a project site when the incident occurred.
Sources revealed that the artisans, on their way back at about 6 p.m. on November 16, encountered gunmen robbing residents in the area. The robbers allegedly chased the artisans, forcing them to seek refuge in a nearby house. Residents in the neighborhood, believing the two men to be criminals, apprehended them and subjected them to fatal mob action.
Witnesses stated that the owner of the project site where the victims had been working arrived at the scene to plead for their innocence, but his efforts were in vain.
Edo State Police spokesperson Moses Yamu confirmed the incident, stating that three suspects had been arrested in connection with the killings, while two others remained at large. “The command is aware of the incident where two young boys unfortunately met their deaths. The arrested suspects have since been charged to court,” said Mr. Yamu.
