May Yul-Edochie’s Lawyer Provides Update on Divorce Case
The divorce case between May Yul-Edochie and her estranged husband, actor Yul Edochie, was heard in court on February 4, with May’s legal representative, Emeka Ugwuonye, providing an update on the proceedings.
According to Ugwuonye, the court was set to receive a report on the Compulsory Conference, a mandatory step in Nigerian family law where both parties and their legal teams meet to attempt a resolution on disputed issues before proceeding to trial. This process allows the couple to negotiate potential agreements, such as the division of marital assets, before the court intervenes.
At the last hearing, the court had instructed both parties to submit a report on their discussions. However, they informed the judge that their deliberations were still ongoing and that no final report had been filed. Given this, the court granted additional time for further discussions and scheduled the next hearing for March.
Ugwuonye clarified that this update serves as an objective account of the case’s progress rather than a reflection of any party’s stance. He also noted that Judy Austin, the third party mentioned in the case, is involved due to allegations of adultery and her claims of being married to Yul Edochie despite his existing legal marriage to May.
The court is expected to receive a conclusive report or confirmation of unresolved disputes at the next hearing, which will determine the trial’s next steps.
