Man Arrested for Vandalizing Graves, Stealing Metal Rods
A 21-year-old man identified as Dauda Saidu has been detained by the Bauchi State Police for allegedly vandalizing graves and stealing metal rods from the Yelwa Christian Cemetery in Bauchi.
The Bauchi State Police Command’s spokesperson, Ahmed Wakil, confirmed the arrest in a statement released yesterday. Wakil revealed that the suspect was apprehended on Friday for trespassing, vandalizing graves, and theft at the cemetery located in the Yelwan Kagadama area of Bauchi.
“Saidu unlawfully entered the Christian cemetery in broad daylight, damaging several graves and stealing rods,” Wakil stated.
During police interrogation, Saidu reportedly confessed to the crimes. He admitted to selling the stolen rods to scrap dealers in multiple transactions, receiving N9,500, N12,000, and N5,500 on different occasions. He also confessed that the proceeds were used to buy food, Indian hemp, and other items.
The Commissioner of Police, Auwal Musa Muhammad, has ordered that the suspect be prosecuted once investigations are concluded. Additionally, Muhammad urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and monitor their children closely to prevent such criminal activities.
