Maiduguri Flooded as Alau Dam Breaks Down

Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, is facing severe flooding following a reported failure of the Alau Dam. The dam, which has been at full capacity for the past week, reportedly broke down, causing widespread inundation of residential areas.

In response to the crisis, Usman Tar, Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, issued an urgent evacuation notice early Tuesday morning. The statement, titled “Flooding Alert for River Bank Residents,” emphasized the need for immediate action to protect lives and property.

Professor Tar highlighted the severity of the situation, noting, “Due to the unusually high volume of water this year, we urge all residents living along the riverbank to take immediate measures to safeguard themselves and their belongings. Residents are advised to adhere to designated evacuation routes to ensure their safety.
