Five Children Killed as Fence Collapses in Maiduguri

Five children have died and another was injured after a fence collapsed in the Bulumkutu area of Maiduguri, Borno State, on Sunday evening.

The incident occurred at about 8:00 p.m., according to the Borno State Police Command.

Police spokesperson Nahum Daso said the fence fell on six children, all under the age of 16. Five of them died at the scene, while the sixth child sustained injuries and is receiving treatment at a hospital.

“We received the report through the Divisional Police Officer of Bulumkutu Division that a fence collapsed on six children,” Daso said. “Sadly, five lost their lives, while one survived with injuries.”

He added that investigations have begun to determine the cause of the collapse.

Daso urged residents to observe proper building standards and ensure children are adequately supervised to prevent similar incidents.
