Air Peace Clarifies Involvement in NLC President Ajaero’s Arrest

Nigeria’s leading airline, Air Peace, has distanced itself from the recent arrest of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President, Joe Ajaero, by the Department of State Services (DSS). The airline clarified that Ajaero’s arrest had no connection to a petition it had submitted against the NLC in 2023.

In a statement, Air Peace spokesperson Omotade Makinwa addressed the situation, stating that the arrest of Ajaero at the Abuja Airport, while en route to the United Kingdom, was unrelated to the airline’s prior legal actions. Makinwa noted that despite negative media reports, the incident does not reflect the current relationship between Air Peace and the NLC.

The spokesperson explained that the airline had submitted a formal petition to the Nigerian Police over a year ago regarding a disruption caused by the NLC. However, the matter was amicably resolved, and Air Peace withdrew the petition after reaching a positive agreement with the labor union.

“Despite our efforts to follow up on the petition, the police initially failed to act promptly. It is important to note that we had already resumed a good working relationship with the NLC before this recent development,” Makinwa stated.

Ajaero’s arrest, which has drawn attention, appears to be linked to the delayed response to the petition, despite the earlier resolution between the two parties.
