LP Crisis Escalates: Former Presidential Aspirant Issues Ultimatum to Peter Obi ‘Unite Party or Leave’
In the midst of escalating tensions within the Labour Party (LP), former presidential aspirant Faduri Oluwadare Joseph issues a bold ultimatum to the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi. Joseph dares Obi to either unite the party’s factions or depart from its ranks.
The LP has found itself embroiled in internal strife, with two factional groups vying for control under the leadership of Julius Abure and Apapa Lamidi. Adding to the complexity, the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has also laid claim to the LP, further muddying the waters of authority.
The recent controversial reelection of Abure during a national convention held in Anambra State has only exacerbated tensions within the party. In response to these challenges, Joseph issued a statement on Friday, urging Obi to take decisive action to prevent the collapse of the party and instead strengthen its position as a viable opposition force in the country.
Joseph emphasized the urgent need for unity within the LP, stating, “Enough is enough! Let’s bury the hatchet and work together for the purpose of bringing good governance to our nation.” He implored Obi to step up and lead the party towards cohesion, warning that failure to do so would necessitate his departure.
Highlighting the LP’s significance as an alternative political platform, Joseph called upon all Nigerians with genuine intentions to rally behind the party and contribute to its revitalization. He underscored the LP’s role in ushering in a new era of leadership, insisting that if current leaders cannot reconcile their differences, they should make way for a new generation of leadership.
With a resolute stance, Joseph concluded, “If the leaders in Labour Party cannot find a common ground to come together, I beg all of them to leave the party and let us rebuild this party with the help of NLC and Nigerians from the grassroots up and we will stand to challenge anyone, any government, by 2027.”
