LP Crisis: Abure-led NEC to Meet, Prepare Response to Obi, Otti’s Leadership Moves

 

 

The Labour Party (LP), led by Julius Abure, is set to hold a crucial National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja, as tensions rise over recent actions by the party’s 2023 Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi, and Abia State Governor, Alex Otti.

 

The conflict follows a stakeholders’ meeting convened by Obi and Otti in Umuahia, Abia State, where they announced the formation of an interim leadership with former Finance Minister Nanedi Usman as Chairperson, a move that has stirred unrest within the party.

 

In response, LP Secretary Umar Farouk Ibrahim has dispatched invitations to NEC members loyal to Abure for a meeting scheduled for Monday. While the official agenda remains confidential, party insiders suggest that discussions will likely focus on addressing what some are calling the “Umuahia rebellion” and possible disciplinary actions against those involved.

 

Although LP’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, is currently unavailable for comment, sources confirm that preparations for the meeting are in full swing. A high-ranking party official noted, “NEC will discuss both the state of the nation and the Umuahia developments. As a party founded on respect for the rule of law, all members, regardless of status, must adhere to the party’s constitution.”
