APC Prepares for Crucial NEC Meeting: Key Issues on the Agenda

The All Progressives Congress (APC) is set to hold its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Thursday, where important decisions regarding the party’s future will be made. According to the party’s National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, the NEC gathering will focus on setting a date for the upcoming non-elective convention.

Prior to the NEC meeting, a National Caucus meeting will take place on Wednesday at the Presidential Villa. The Caucus, made up of party elders and key parliamentary leaders, serves as an advisory body, helping the party align on major consensus issues ahead of the NEC meeting.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima are expected to attend both meetings. Key figures such as the APC National Working Committee (NWC), led by Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, past and present National Assembly leaders, and former national chairmen will also be in attendance.

During the NEC meeting, the party will review its overall state, tackle internal challenges, and map out strategies for future growth. An essential agenda item includes the ratification of the 2023/2024 auditor’s report and the party’s budget for the upcoming year. Additionally, the party’s e-registration program, aimed at increasing membership and gathering accurate data on the party’s composition, will be reviewed.

The party recently launched its Progressive Institute to strengthen its ideological direction and provide training for members. Basiru also emphasized that the NEC meeting will assess past elections and begin preparations for the upcoming gubernatorial polls in Edo and Ondo states.

While there have been rumors regarding possible leadership changes within the party, Basiru dismissed these as mere speculation, reaffirming that the meeting’s agenda will focus on established priorities.
