Let President Tinubu Serve His Second Term, Northerners Should Look to 2031 – SGF Akume
Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has urged former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and other northern politicians with presidential ambitions to wait until 2031, emphasizing that the region’s opportunity to produce the country’s next president will not come in 2027. In a statement on TVC’s Politics on Sunday program, Akume called for patience, suggesting that President Bola Tinubu, a southerner, should be allowed to complete a second term.
“The 2027 presidency should not be the focus for northern politicians, including Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. They should look beyond 2027 and consider 2031,” Akume stated. He added that if it is God’s will for Atiku to become president, it will happen, regardless of age, but for now, the northern politicians should allow Tinubu to continue his work.
In his comments, Akume also defended the administration’s economic policies, specifically the Tax Reform Bills. He described the legislation as a visionary step toward rescuing the nation’s economy, calling on Nigerians to allow the bills to progress through the legislative process. “These bills are well-envisioned for Nigeria and Nigerians. Let us allow the legislative processes to take their course,” Akume said, stressing that the reforms would ultimately benefit all citizens.
Further discussing the administration’s economic strategies, Akume highlighted the removal of fuel subsidies and the harmonization of foreign exchange windows as crucial efforts in stabilizing the economy. He expressed confidence that the positive effects of these reforms would soon become apparent, bringing renewed hope for Nigeria’s economic future. “Very soon, Nigerians will begin to see the positive outcomes of these reforms,” he concluded.

If the case of ruling Nigeria is all about the Hausa’s and Yoruba’s sharing of turns, just as the SGF has assertion in his opinion, then the Igbos should be allowed free to have their own peace and country to lead themselves, as we don’t have any place in Nigerian.
