Sowunmi Reveals Atiku’s Reaction When Asked About Contesting 2027 Election

Segun Sowunmi, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar’s 2019 presidential campaign, has revealed that he has yet to receive a definitive answer from Atiku regarding his intentions for the 2027 presidential race. Despite the former vice president not officially declaring his candidacy, there are indications that he may be considering a third run for the presidency.

Sowunmi shared during an interview with Channels Television that he has asked Atiku twice whether he plans to run again or if he has decided to step aside. Sowunmi stated that he believes it is crucial to understand Atiku’s stance before moving forward with any political strategy.

“I have asked him twice, ‘Are you running? Are you done? If you’re running, what do we do with this structure? If you’re not done, we have to do something different,'” Sowunmi said. He emphasized the importance of not repeating past strategies and expecting different results.

Sowunmi expressed his deep admiration for Atiku, noting that while the former vice president has not given a direct answer, his silence suggests that he is still contemplating the decision. He acknowledged the emotional and mental toll that running for office takes, especially given Atiku’s past experiences, challenges, and betrayals. Sowunmi further noted that any candidate, particularly one with Atiku’s history, should take time to reflect before committing to another presidential campaign.

Although Atiku has not yet responded to Sowunmi’s inquiries, Sowunmi remains respectful of his decision-making process, stating that once Atiku provides an answer, they will take the next steps accordingly.
