Lawyer Ifeanyi Ejimakor Condemns Arrest of Anambra Native Doctor
Human rights lawyer Ifeanyi Ejimakor has strongly criticized the arrest of Chidozie Nwangwu, popularly known as Akwa Okuko Tiwara Aki, by the Anambra State security outfit, Agunechemba. The native doctor, known for his flamboyant lifestyle on social media, was apprehended on Saturday in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area.
In a statement on Sunday, Ejimakor condemned the Anambra State Government, calling the arrest an abuse of power and a violation of fundamental rights. He argued that the detention was not only illegal but also a dangerous precedent that threatens religious and expressive freedoms in the state.
Ejimakor revealed that Akwa Okuko was invited for a meeting by the Deputy Governor of Anambra State. However, he alleged that the invitation was a trap that led to the native doctor’s unjust detention. He also addressed an undated viral video in which Akwa Okuko allegedly mentioned preparing a substance called “Okeite.” According to the lawyer, the video was not released on Akwa Okuko’s official platforms, and even if he had made such statements, there was no clear legal basis for his arrest.
Citing Sections 38, 39, and 40 of the Nigerian Constitution, Ejimakor emphasized that every citizen has the right to freedom of thought, conscience, religion, and expression. He called for the immediate and unconditional release of Akwa Okuko, warning that any infringement on these rights undermines democracy and sets a troubling precedent for governance in Anambra State.
