Lakurwa Terrorists Kill Three Immigration Officers, Burn Bodies in Kebbi Attack
A deadly overnight attack in Bakin Ruwa, near the Maje border in Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State, has left three Nigeria Immigration Service officers dead. The officers were on duty at a checkpoint when armed members of the Lakurawa gang stormed the location around midnight on Wednesday and opened fire. Local sources said the attackers killed the officers instantly and set their bodies ablaze before escaping into the surrounding bush.
The same border corridor has seen repeated violence. Two weeks earlier, a customs officer was murdered at the very spot where this latest assault occurred, heightening fears among residents and security personnel operating along the Nigeria–Benin boundary. The renewed violence comes only weeks after Nigeria and Benin Republic signed a joint security pact aimed at curbing cross-border attacks targeting immigration and customs operatives.
Security officials familiar with the incident confirmed the killings, though they declined to be named because they were not authorized to speak publicly. They described the Lakurawa group as increasingly aggressive, with a record of launching deadly strikes across several communities in Kebbi State. Their motive in this latest attack has not yet been established, and investigations are underway.
The spokesperson for the Kebbi State Police Command, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, also confirmed the incident but said detailed reports were still being compiled.
