Police Foil Lakurawa Attack in Kebbi Border Community
Security operatives in Kebbi State have thwarted an attempted attack by suspected Lakurawa militants along the Maje border road in Bagudo Local Government Area.
In a statement released on Saturday in Birnin Kebbi, Police Public Relations Officer Bashir Usman said the assailants advanced under the cover of darkness, blending with a herd of cattle in what authorities described as a calculated effort to conceal their movement.
Officers of the Police Counter Terrorism Unit, who were on heightened alert, engaged the group in a gun battle that forced them to withdraw from the area.
Usman reported that although several temporary security structures were damaged during the exchange, no casualties or injuries were recorded among security personnel or civilians.
Following the incident, security presence along the border corridor has been strengthened. Police said the situation is stable and under control.
The command also advised residents, particularly herders and livestock owners, to avoid moving cattle at night in a manner that could create suspicion or provide cover for criminal activity.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police has directed that firm and lawful action be taken against any suspicious movement or activities associated with night grazing.
