Lagos State PDP Carpets Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s New Year Promise to the State on Transparency in Governance:
The Lagos State People’s Democratic Party’s Chairman, Adedeji Doherty has taken on the Governor of Lagos State Babajide Sanwo-Olu on the promises made to the good people of Lagos State during his inauguration as governor of the state.
Doherty said, I believe we were told by the promoters of Governor Sanwo-Olu that he is well qualified to steer the ship of this state to a favorable and progressive destination.
However, it is worthy to say that the situation in Lagos State still falls very short of what we expect from a very wealthy and cosmopolitan state.
I believe we have given the governor a chance to design his own template and execute his own programs, and as a responsible opposition, Lagos State PDP has given him time to settle down and get his house in order.
It is now nearly 8 months since he resumed office. It takes 9 months to deliver a baby.
We hope our Governor shows the whole world that he is transparent in all his dealings especially when it comes to the issue of infrastructural development, Education, Health, Job Creation, Transportation, Resettlement and rehabilitation of Destitutes and Shanty town residents, Epidemic Preparedness and control programme, Debt Management, Youth Empowerment, Sports, Affordable Housing ,women affairs , Pension and Social Security programme for our elderly, anti corruption drive and of course our Traditional institution.
Doherty also advised the Governor to look closely at the various abandoned projects that litter the state, examples are the Lagos light rail, the various uncompleted flyovers ie Agege etc, the 12+ year Eko Atlantic Project, the promised 4th mailand bridge which Lagosians have been waiting for 11 years to see, and other projects promised and initiated by Governor Fashola and Ambode.
“The fact is that the All Progressive Congress has directly or indirectly governed Lagos State for 20 years consistently with no major gains to the people of Lagos apart from tolled roads and bridges to show for it. What we would expect from a city such as Lagos are a world class International Airport, a modern hospitals, High Tech Universities and schools, a world class stadium where our sons and daughters can expose their sportsmanship skills etc.
Doherty also noted that no newly constructed highway has been built in Lagos within this 20 year period.
“Lagos state is our State and we have no other. With this in mind, we intend to protect and pursue its development jealously.”
Doherty advised the All Progressive Congress leadership to compel the Sanwo Olu administration to focus on major people oriented programs rather than executing Local Government sized projects like construction of bus stops and beautification of the state,
He also advised the Governor to see himself as the Governor of all and not the Governor of only APC members in the state where only card carrying APC members are the only benefiters of state sponsored programs.
